PokerStars steps up to help with coronavirus relief efforts

In truth, the event will support multiple charities. Half of the $1 million donation from PokerStars will go to the humanitarian organization CARE International.

Meanwhile the celebrity participants will be competing for the remainder of the prize pool. Those going deep and making the “cash” get to donate their winnings to charities of their choice.

Celebrities who bust from the tournament early will have an opportunity to join a side event where they can play for their charities as well.

Big names answer the call to compete for their own charities

Celebrities already announced as taking part include event organizer Hank Azaria, Jon Hamm, Michael Cera, Kevin Pollak, David Schwimmer, Michael Ian Black, Don Cheadle, Eric Bogosian, Brad Garrett, Bryan Cranston, Tony Yazbeck, Amy Schumer, Jeff Garlin, Edward Norton, and Jason Alexander.

The event is also providing a chance for a group of randomly-selected poker fans to take part as well.

The tournament will see the celebrities and non-celebrities initially play in separate groups. Once each plays down to a final table, then those two tables will combine to play down to a winner.

Several ways to watch the ‘Stars CALL For Action’

The Stars CALL For Action event can be followed online via PokerStars’ Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube channels. Viewers watching the livestream will have the opportunity to donate to CARE International as well.

James Hartigan and PokerStars AmbassadorLex Veldhuis will co-host the livestream. They will conduct interviews and “celebrity check-ins.” Players will have their cameras on as they play from their homes.

The event is one of a few examples of recent online charity poker tournaments in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Nearly all live poker rooms in the United States and around the world have closed their doors.

PokerStars PA continues bringing online poker action

In addition to being the world’s largest online poker site serving players in dozens of countries outside of the US, PokerStars currently operates legal online poker sites in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Poker players in Pennsylvania continue to flock to PokerStars PA, the one and only PGCB-regulated site in the state. Since casinos closed their doors in mid-March, the site has seen even more traffic.

New players can sign up here to receive $30 in free play plus a 100 percent deposit match up to $600.

Online poker tournament guarantees draw players every time. The promise of a certain prize pool brings players to win a piece of that amount but also to see if there could be an overlay. Without enough players, the poker site must contribute to the prize pool to cover the overlay. That is free money just waiting for a taker.

Bovada knows that players love guarantees, but nothing draws players like a million dollars. And with nearly one month to qualify for a ticket, players have plenty of time to get in on the action.

Million Dollar Event: July 12

The title of the tournament says it all. The Million Dollar Event will guarantee a $1 million prize pool, though the actual prize money could exceed that amount if more players enter to compete.

The tournament is set to take place on July 12 at 3pm ET.

Players can buy in directly for $535. Most players don’t have that type of bankroll flexibility, though, so they can begin playing satellites. They run around the clock for as little as $1.10.

Excellent satellite players can win up to four entries for the Million Dollar Event, as players will be allowed up to four reentries into the tournament. However, any tournament tickets for the event that go unused will expire and cannot be exchanged for cash or used for any other tournament.

Monster Stacks Through July 15

For players who haven’t yet discovered the Monster Stack series on Bovada yet, there is still nearly one month to do so. Players start with more chips than usual, giving them better opportunities to play before putting their tournament life all-in.

The Monster Stack started in April and runs five events every day:

–$10 + $1 buy-in NHLE

–$25 + $2.50 buy-in NLHE (two per day)

Poker

–$100 + $9 buy-in NLHE

–$200 + $15 buy-in NLHE

There are also three major weekly events, these with handy guarantees:

–Mondays: $470 + $30 Monster Stack NLHE Super High Roller ($150K GTD)

–Sundays: $150 + $12 Monster Stack NLHE ($250K GTD)

–Sundays: $300 + $25 Monster Stack NLHE High Roller ($200K GTD)

Players will find qualifiers for all of these Monster Stack series events running daily.
